Victor was one of many who left Finland for North America in order to escape the advance of the Russians into Finland in the early 1900's. A carpenter by trade, Viktor lost the vision in one eye in an accident shortly after arriving in Canada in 1901. The family eventually moved to Detroit, MI where he and his wife lived out the remainder of their lives. Viktor's death record misspelled his last name as Veinikainen.
Viktor's year of death is reported incorrectly in the Social Security Death Index as 1962. His grandson, Victor, knows that Viktor's wife, Susanna, outlived her husband by a number of years. I think it likely that this is a typigraphical error and the record should read 1942.
Viktor married Susanna Maria NAURISMÄKI, daughter of Jaakko Jaakosson NAURISMÄKI and Anna Juhantytar PRITSILÄ, on 16 May 1903 in Sault Ste Marie, Algoma County, Ontario, Canada.1 (Susanna Maria NAURISMÄKI was born on 3 Jan 1882 in Ylikojola Farm, Lapua Parish, Finland 8, christened on 8 Jan 1882 in Lapua Parish, Finland, died on 21 Aug 1945 in Birmingham, Oakland, Michigan and was buried in Aug 1945 in Evergreen Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan 9.)
