I am uncertain if Robert is the son of John Rockett, or the illegitimate son of one of John's sisters. I suspect that he is John's son, as John died in 1850 and Robert is found living with his grandparents in 1851. It is likely, then, that Robert's mother was also dead by 1851.

It appears that Robert and his family immigrated from England to Canada sometime between 1871 (when they last appear on the England census) and 1877 (when their daughter, Blanche, was born in Canada). They then immigrated to California, where Robert and Maria last appear on the 1920 U.S. census in Compton.

Robert married Maria OXENHAM about 1866 in Gloucester County, England. (Maria OXENHAM was born about 1849 in Baumpton, Devon County, England and died after 1920 in prob. California.)

Dulverton) and children Edward Wm. (age 25, b. Wiveliscombe) and James (age 21, b. Wiveliscombe), living on Paddick's Farm in Huish Champflower, England. Also in the household is a grandson, Robert (age 4, b. Stogumber, Somerset), who is most likely the child of Edward and Mary's son, John, who died in 1850. Edward is listed as a "freeholder" of 50 acres on the Paddick's Farm. Also living in the household is a Mary Guard, age 17, listed as a "house servant."

3 1920 US Census (District 41, Compton, Los Angeles County, California). Surety: 3. Lists Robert T. Rockett (age 72, b. Eng.), wife Maria (age 73, b. Eng.) and daughter Blanche (age 43, b. Canada), living in Compton, California. The record indicates that the family immigrated to the U.S. (presumably from Canada) in 1911 and were not naturalized. No occupation is listed for any of them.
