Eng. Canada), living in San Francisco, California. Irwin is listed as "pres. of bank" and indicates that both his parents were born in Ireland. Paulina indicates that her father was born in Kentucky and her mother in England [erroneous]. The couple indicates that they have been married for 40 years, and have had 1 child, deceased. Paulina indicates that she came to the U.S. in 1850, and is not naturalized.

Truman, Anita M., Truman Family Bible. Surety: 4. As a boy, Irwin moved from Philadelphia to Canada with his parents. He married Paulina Sage in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada in 1859 or 1860. Their son Irwin Clarke Joseph Truman was born in Woodstock on November 6, 1860.
In 1861, Irwin Truman left his wife and son in Woodstock with her parents and came to San Francisco. He was employed by Baker & Hamilton Co. (wholesale hardware) in Sacramento. In 1866 he was sent to San Francisco to open a branch office for Baker & Hamilton Co., at which time his wife and son joined him in San Francisco. He served as manager of this branch office for sixteen years, leaving to establish the firm of Truman-Hooker Co. (hardware) in 1882. Later he became the President of Columbia Banking Co. and then Treasurer of the City and County of San Francisco. at the time of his death in 1918, he was the President of the Owners' Realty Co. , the Hollywood Addition Co. and the Truman Investment Co., all of San Francisco.
He was deeply interested in civic and church affairs. He was a member of the San Francisco Commercial Club and active in the Grace Church in San Francisco and later the Wesley Church of North Berkeley. He served for many years as Treasurer of the San Francisco Y.M.C.A. and as President of the Church Extension Society. He also served on the joint Boards of Directors of Fred Finch and McKinley Orphanages.
He died at his home in Berkeley, California on May 27, 1918.
