IL), Spencer (age 6, b. IL), Charles (age 4, b. IL), Sidney S. (age 3, b. IL), and Florence S. (age 1, b. IL), living in Palmyra, Illinois.
2 1880 US Census (District 24, Benton, Holt County, Missouri). Repository: Ancestry. Surety: 4. Lists Alphonso Morgan (age 40, b. IL), wife Josephine (age 27, b. IL), and children Lulu (age 4, b. Iowa) and Edward (age 2, b. MO), living in Benton, Missouri. Also in the household are Josephine's sister, Lillian Martin (age 22, b. IL) listed as "teaching school," Robert Clumes (age 21, b. MO) listed as a "farm laborer," and Alphonso's mother, Elizabeth [Shoemaker] Morgan (age 50, b. IN). Alphonso indicates that both his parents were born in Ohio. Josephine indicates that both her parents were born in New Hampshire. Lillian indicates that her father was born in New Hampshire and her mother in Canada (perhaps they had different mothers?). Elizabeth indicates that her father was born in New Jersey and her mother in Indiana. Also living in Benton at this time is Alphonso's brother, Sidney Morgan, and his family.
3 1910 US Census (District 32, 2-Wd, Calcasieu, Louisiana). Surety: 4. Lists Alphonso Morgan (age 73, b. IL), wife Josephine (age 56, b. IL), and children Edwin C. (age 31, b. MO) and Ellen M. (age 18, b. MO), living in Calasieu County, Louisiana. Also in the household are Joseph Kosh (widower, age 30, b. LA) listed as a "servant," and Eddie Hill (age 32, b. LA) listed as a "boarder." Alphonso is listed as a "farmer" of a "rice farm." Edwin is listed as a "rice farmer." Ellen is listed as working at a "high school." Joseph and Eddie are both listed as "laborers" on the "rice farm." The Josephine listed in this census is likely a second wife of Alphonso, as she is quite a bit younger than Josephine Martin would be. The census indicates that this couple has been married for 38 years, and that Josephine has had 5 children, 3 of which are still living.
