1861 England Census (Wiveliscombe, Somerset County, England). Repository: Ancestry. Surety: 4. Lists James Sloman (age 72, b. Wiveliscombe), wife Harriet (age 61, b. Aylesbere, Devon); also their son, Francis (age 25, b. Wiveliscombe), and his wife, Anne (age 28, b. Alcombe, Somerset), and their daughter, Alice Laura (age 1, b. Wiveliscombe), living on Perry's Farm, Wiveliscombe. James Sloman is listed as a "farmer of 160 acres, employing 2 men and 2 boys." Three servants are also listed in the household. My family lore indicates that daughter, Martha, married a stable boy (Edward William Rockett) and was disowned from the family. There is no record of Edward W. Rockett working as a stable boy, but as this record indicates, the Sloman's were a rather wealthy family, so it is possible that they did not approve of their daughter's marriage to the son of a poor farmer.

Sloman Family Bible (Owned by descendants of Henry Sloman [1870 - 1930's]). Surety: 4. Alice Laura Sloman. Born at Perries Farm, in the Parish of Wiveliscombe, Somerset on Monday August 1st, 1859. Alice Laura was baptized in the Parish Church of Wiveliscombe 4th September 1859. Sponsors: Mr. & Mrs. James Sloman [James George Edwards Sloman & Mary Ann Willis], Mr. & Mrs. Henry Siderfin.

Ibid. Surety: 4. Laura Sloman Dunn -- Frank - Henry (Harry) - Edward and George -- all settled at Effingham, Ks.

1901 England Census (District 4, Othery, Somerset County, England). Surety: 4. List Edward Dunn, wife Alice L. [Sloman], and son, Harold, living in Othery, England. Also in the household are Ann Sloman, "mother in law" [Alice's mother] and Annie E.M.B. Sloman "visitor," [Alice's sister]. Edward is listed as a "dairy farmer and poultry dealer." Ann Sloman is listed as "living on means." Annie E.M.B. Sloman is listed as "housekeeper domestic."

1891 England Census (District 8, North Petherton, Somerset County, England). Repository: Ancestry. Surety: 4. Lists Edward Dunn (age 30), wife Alice L. (age 31), and children Edgar (age 6) and Harold (age 4), living in North Petherton, England. Edward is listed as a "farmer" on "Ritch's Farm." Also in the household is Emily J. Reed (age 16, b. Somerset, Lydeart [sp?] St. Lawrence) who is listed as a "domestic servant general." Edgar's birthplace is listed as Auckland, New Zealand, so the family must have spent some time there around 1885.

1930 US Census, District 10, Benton, Atchison County, Kansas. Surety: 4. Lists Edward Dunn (age 72) and wife Alice L. (age 70), living in Benton, Kansas. Edward is listed as a "general farmer." Living next door in his own household is their son, Harold. This census indicates that Edward and Alice immigrated to the U.S. in 1910, and that they were naturalized in Alabama.

1881 England Census (Wiveliscombe, Somerset County, England). Repository: Ancestry. Surety: 4. Lists Francis Sloman (age 46, b. Wiveliscombe), wife Anne (age 49, b. Dunster) and children Alice L. (age 21, b. Wiveliscombe), Arthur R. (age 19, b. Wiveliscombe), Edward J. (age 17, b. Wiveliscombe), Frank (age 15, b. Wiveliscombe), Charles H. (age 13, b. Wiveliscombe), Henry (age 11, b. Wiveliscombe), Annie E.M.B. (age 8, b. Wiveliscombe) and George (age 6, b. Wiveliscombe), living in Wiveliscombe, England. Francis is listed as a "farmer of 160 acres."
