SHOEMAKER, Nathan 1 2 3 4 5 6
General Notes: The Strong Family Bible [held by descendants of Nathan's son, John James] has an entry that reads: "Nathan Shoemaker, Margaret O'Cayne, Samuel-Donner Party, John James, Jerome Herbert." The reason for the reference in this text to the famous Samuel-Donner Party is uncertain. A Samuel Shoemaker from Ohio (b. abt. 1821) was a member of this party, and perished at Alder Creek, but his possible connection to this Shoemaker family is unknown. The identity of Jerome Herbert is also unknown...perhaps a son [maybe a twin of John James, as twins did run in this family] that died in infancy. Nathan married Margaret O'CAYNE on 23 Feb 1828 in Butler County, Ohio. (Margaret O'CAYNE was born in 1804 in Ireland and died after 1870 in prob Grant County, Wisconsin.) |
