4 Strong Family Bible (Owned by descendants of Nathan Shoemaker.) Surety: 3. Nathan Shoemaker, Margaret O'Cayne, Samuel-Donner Party, John James, Jerome Herbert. The reason for the reference in this text to the famous Samuel-Donner Party (wherein a large party of emigrants perished at what is now known as Donner Pass) is unknown at this time. A Samuel Shoemaker from Ohio was part of the Samuel-Donner Party, and perished at Alder Creek, but his possible connection to Nathan Shoemaker's family is unknown. The identity of Jerome Herbert is uncertain...perhaps a son [maybe even a twin to John James, as twins did run in this family] who perished in infancy.
